Scania delivering 60 RME-fuelled buses to Gothenburg

Scania has sold 60 city buses to Busslink, an operator for the public transport company Västtrafik in the Gothenburg (Göteborg) region of western Sweden. The buses have engines that can run on rapeseed methyl ester (RME), which is a fuel that does not contribute to net carbon dioxide emissions.

“This is our second major transaction this year with Busslink, which previously ordered 85 ethanol-powered articulated buses to provide service for Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL), the main public transport company in the Stockholm region. Our bus and coach sales have been good this year, and so far we have sold more than 225, mainly for public transport. Behind this success is our ability to offer a complete range including engines that run on both diesel and renewable fuels,” says Leif Nyström, bus and coach sales manager at Swedish distributor Scania Sverige AB. The two- and three-axle buses for the Gothenburg region are of the Scania OmniLink type. They will be delivered during the spring of 2010 and will begin service in June. Eighteen of the buses will be specifically designed for urban traffic, while 42 will be adapted for regional service.
