Scania has reached an understanding with Cimpomóvel Veículos Pesados, S.A. to acquire the Portuguese distribution.

“This transaction means that we are taking a step further in the value chain. It also opens the way for greater co-ordination with our distribution network elsewhere in Europe and thus greater synergies,” says Hans-Christer Holgersson, Head of Sales and Services on Scania’s Executive Board.

During 2005, Cimpomóvel Veículos Pesados, S.A. reported sales of about SEK 600 million (EUR 63.4 m.). The company, which has been Scania distributor since 1972, has a nationwide sales and service network encompassing six wholly owned dealerships. The company has 250 employees.

“It is a well-run, efficient company we are taking over. The current owners have professionally and successfully developed the Scania business in Portugal,” Mr Holgersson says.

Scania sells about 500 trucks per year in Portugal and today has a market share of 13 percent.

“One important aim with this acquisition is to further improve the support to the Scania customers in Portugal, by meeting their need of a broad range of services – one stop shopping,” Mr Holgersson says.
