Scania invests in growth

An increase in production capacity from 70,000 to 100,000 vehicles until 2010 was one of the messages at Scania’s Capital Markets Day on Wednesday.

“With limited investment, totally some SEK 2 billion in a three-year period, we can increase the technical capacity within our current production system to 100,000 units. In comparison, setting up an assembly unit for example in Asia, would mean double that investment,” said Per Hallberg, Group Vice President Production and Procurement.

Scania annually achieves a productivity improvement of 6-8 percent, which is the result of continuous improvements and concentration of component production, as well as volume increases.

“Today we produce 6 vehicles per employee compared to 2.5 in the early 1990s. Our ambition is to reach about 10 vehicles per employee around 2010,” said Per Hallberg.
