With the new R-series, “Scania has delivered a ‘state-of-the-art’ truck that sets new standards in terms of fuel economy, driveability and overall efficiency,” said jury chairman Gianenrico Griffini when he presented the International Truck of the Year 2010 award to Scania in a ceremony at the company’s research and development centre in Södertälje, Sweden.

The International Truck of the Year award is given each year to the truck model that has made the strongest contribution towards making road transport more efficient. The award, which was established in 1977, is the most prestigious accolade in the trucking world. The jury consists of leading commercial vehicle journalists from 22 European countries. Scania’s new R-series, which was unveiled in September 2009, has been very well received in the industry. In addition to the International Truck of the Year 2010 title, for example, the Scania R 480 model won by a wide point margin in the extensive comparative 1000 Point Test organised by the German commercial vehicle trade press, whose results were recently published in several European trade magazines.
