Scania sells Laxå plant
Scania sells Laxå plant Scania has now sold its Laxå plant, whose products include special cabs for fire tenders. The facility has been acquired by a new company, Laxå Special Vehicles AB, which has been formed by the former top management team, and will take over the workforce, premises and production equipment. The operation will continue with Scania as the main customer. The Laxå plant has been in Scania's ownership since 1992. The main product line is special cabs, such as the CrewCab, which is used mainly on fire tenders. The plant also reconditions service exchange components for Scania and for Saab service exchange engines. "Our CrewCabs have been received very positively and we have increased our market shares for the special vehicles in question. Compared with Scania's other operations, however, this is a niche product manufactured in relatively low volumes. The Laxå unit is staffed by an enterprising local management which can continue to run it very efficiently," says Kaj Holmelius, Senior Vice President, Research and Truck Development at Scania.
