Spanish order for 75 city buses: Scania's biggest bus market in Europe Scania's Spanish subsidiary, Scania Hispania, has received an order for 75 buses from city bus operator EMT in Madrid. "The order represents a breakthrough for Scania's city buses in the Spanish capital," comments Kenneth Johnson, Market Director of Scania Buses & Coaches. Last year, Spain was again Scania's biggest bus market in Europe, with sales of 418 buses. "In a declining market, we achieved a market share of 16.5%, which is one of our highest figures ever," says Kenneth Johnson. Empresa Municipal Transportes (EMT) has a fleet of almost 2,000 buses and operates city services in Madrid. The company tested a Scania low-floor bus in service last autumn to evaluate the product and its overall economy. "The trials proved positive and have resulted in this order for 75 buses, which can be regarded as a breakthrough for Scania in the Spanish city bus market," adds Kenneth Johnson. The Scania chassis will be bodied by Spanish bodybuilder Castrosua, a partner with which Scania has enjoyed successful collaboration for some time. The low-floor buses will be equipped with ABS disc brakes and Scania's Euro 3 engine. Deliveries will commence after the summer holidays this year.
