Travel with Scania through times on the Internet Scania has entered its third century of existence, with more than one hun- dred years of experience in vehicle manufacture. A million vehicles wear- ing the Scania badge have been put onto roads the world over. This is a landmark we are celebrating by reviewing our history, but with an eye firmly on the future too. It's all there on Scania's corporate web-page, www.scania.com. From our homepage, you can visit the Scania World Millennium where you will see that Scania is one of the past century's leading manufacturers of heavy trucks, buses and industrial and marine engines. The site contains a wealth of reports and other material supplemented by more than 300 pictures that cover more than a hundred years of corporate history. It is also a natural springboard for looking ahead to the future. "The development of tomorrow's heavy commercial vehicles focuses on effi- ciency, safety and environmental concern, all the time with the emphasis firmly on the driver," says Kaj Holmelius, Senior Vice President at Scania, as he looks ahead to the future. The site also contains a feature on Scania's new system for remotely moni- toring field tests. The analyst nowadays faces a computer screen in Sö- dertälje and reads off current operating data from a vehicle undergoing rigorous tests virtually anywhere in Europe. For those interested in the past, there is a historical journey back in time riding the waves of modern multimedia technology. Come along on a 1909 trip, accompanying "men of brave aspect and strong determination on an epic journey by automobile from Malmö to Stockholm." Five adventurers set off in a 24 hp Scania truck, covering almost 700 kilometres of rough, unmade roads from the south of the country to the capital city. The video archives contain a number of small clips that reflect aspects of the company's transport history from the early days up to today. Those looking for the written word will find masses of information in the text archives, where all material is available in both PDF and Word formats. Have a pleasant trip through three centuries!
