Scania at Transport Logistic 2001 Vehicle management and integrated telematics At the Transport Logistic 2001 exhibition in Munich, Scania Deutschland adds a full telematics package to its range of OptiMile vehicle management services. The system is based on Scania's handheld computer and a communication module linked to web-based logistics software from gedas telematics. The full range of OptiMile services is demonstrated on the Scania stand (hall B4, stand 121). "The combination of Scania's vehicle data and fleet analysis system and gedas telematics enables us to offer a complete telematics package - ScanTelematics," states Christian Teichmann, responsible for Scania OptiMile at Scania Deutschland. "The vehicle fleet and the cargo can now be managed to perfection - both for in-cab duties and from the office. The performance of each vehicle and each driver can be analysed and followed-up in great detail. Our demo fleet will be equipped with the complete package from August and deliveries will start on a broader scale in October." Scania's open on-board IT-architecture and standardised protocol for fleet management systems makes the new systems compatible with other equipment on the market that is already in use with operators. About Scania OptiMile Competition is constantly getting keener and the margins slimmer for transport operators. The best way for haulage and logistics companies to secure a reasonable operating margin is to continuously improve the efficiency of their operations. Scania therefore provides its customers with individually tailored vehicle management services that allow them to concentrate on their core business. The modular services are constantly being reviewed and extended in line with customer preferences. The following services are part of OptiMile - Scania Deutschland's vehicle management services: ScanFinance - financing solutions for Scania vehicles ScanLease - leasing agreements that can be tailored to the customer's needs ScanRent - short-term (1 day to 1 year) or long-term (up to 4 years) truck rental offering a choice of rigids, tractors and semitrailers. ScanDrive - driver information, driver training and safety driving courses to promote fleet economy and safety ScanService - repair and maintenance agreements ScanProtect - insurance services ScanTelematics - communication and positioning, telematics, logistics and fleet analysis ScanSpecials - additional services, e.g. agreements covering residual value, tyre service or tax costs Scania OptiMile centre To demonstrate its comprehensive range of vehicle management services, Scania has built its stand as an OptiMile centre, with exhibits showing all vehicle management modules, including telematics and logistics (hall B4, stand 121). Here, all visitors are welcome to acquaint themselves with the services on offer, discuss with specialists from Scania and gedas and make detailed calculations. Around 30% of all new Scania vehicles sold in Germany are now supplied with repair and maintenance (R&M) agreements. Introduced at the IAA in 1998, Scania OptiMile has been a great success, as evidenced by the fact that a large number of major German transport operators have since signed agreements with Scania. ------------------------------------------------------------ This information was brought to you by BIT http://www.bit.se The following files are available for download: http://www.bit.se/bitonline/2001/05/15/20010515BIT00830/bit0002.doc http://www.bit.se/bitonline/2001/05/15/20010515BIT00830/bit0002.pdf
