Based in Southeast Scotland, specialist in structural engineering and metal fabrication, Had Fab, was commissioned by UK energy transmission giant, SSEN to design and construct a model transmission tower, to be unveiled at the opening ceremony of their £15million offices in Perthshire.

The commemorative structure was unveiled during the opening ceremony by Deputy First Minister John Swinney, who commended SSEN on their vital role in assisting the UK and Scotland to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Had Fab was commissioned by SSEN after working closely with the fabricators on the Moray East and West Offshore Wind Farms at the back end of last year. The transmission company’s first-hand experience with Had Fad’s durable designs and high-quality finish led to the fabricators to become the obvious choice for SSEN’s iconic piece.

Attending the celebrations, Managing Director at Had Fab, Greg Scott commented:

‘Had Fab was delighted to be commissioned by SSEN to supply the model transmission tower. The iconic piece was designed to represent not only a central part of the ceremony, but also SSEN’s history as a corporation.

‘The transmission model stands proudly at the Perthshire office entrance as a commemorative symbol of SSEN’s commitment to net zero and the Scottish electrical infrastructure.

Our relationship with SSEN is based on trust and historical delivery – SSEN trust that Had Fab is absolutely committed to ensuring uncompromisable quality of design and engineering, using the industry’s finest materials.’

SSEN’s contribution to the renewables sector in Scotland is critical to a low carbon future. The company’s £15 million investment into new offices in Perth will provide 150 new roles and houses its commitment to developing, building and maintaining the Scottish net zero network. The model transmission tower has been placed at the entrance of the Perthshire offices, accompanied by a plaque to mark the historical day.

With over 30 years of experience across the power and transmission, rail, civils and energy sectors, Had Fab boasts brands including Costain, SSEN and National Grid amongst its clients. The company provides durable, metal structures and engineering capability.
