SCC acquires SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ Hampshire Data Centre

SCC announces it has reached an agreement to acquire, SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ Hampshire Data Centre, taking its total investment in Data Centres to more than £50 million.

The purchase represents a second Tier 3+ Data Centre in SCC’s portfolio, alongside its Midlands facilities, and will serve as the company’s key Data Centre in the South.

SCC witnessed growth of 69% from Data Centre and Cloud services alone last year following a succession of key customer wins including Gist, Aggregate Industries, BOC, IBM, Oxfordshire County Council, CAA and Highways Agency.

Europe’s leading independent technology solutions provider is seeing real momentum in revenue from its secure Government Cloud, Sentinel by SCC, which protects data to CESG IL2 & 3 security standards and is the first Pan-Government Accredited platform of its kind.

The acquisition of SSE Enterprise Telecoms N+ 2 Hampshire facility underpins SCC’s strategic plan to evolve its services and annuity business through ongoing organic investment and acquisitive growth, and places added focus on security and information assurance.

SCC has commenced an additional investment programme in its datacentres in Birmingham, scheduled for completion in November, which will increase capacity to 900 racks.

SSE Enterprise Telecoms, part of the SSE plc, operates a 13,700km private telecoms network in the UK and owns 15 other co-location facilities providing leading edge carrier Ethernet, Internet and optical services. The Hampshire data centre is a high-density, high availability facility designed to provide a secure and well-connected service.

Engineered to Tier 3+ standards, the data centre comprises 100,000 sq. ft. with potential for expansion. The site contains pre-configured communal co-location space and private suites, together with unconfigured space that can be precisely customised to individual requirements.

SCC Chief Executive James Rigby comments: “This is a significant acquisition, from a major FTSE 100 company, which represents another major step towards our goal to become Europe’s principal IT services business.

“We set out this ambition in our 3-5 year plan. The purchase of SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ data centre more than doubles our capacity to support existing and new customers, and underpins the £50m spent on developing our data centre & cloud capabilities last year.”

The transaction, estimated at £12m, is expected to complete in the fourth quarter of the calendar year 2014, subject to certain closing conditions being met.
