Cascade’s HR software a hit with national charity YMCA England

YMCA England – part of the largest and oldest youth charity in the world – has begun to revolutionise its approach to Human Resources, with the help of HR software from Cascade.

Responsible for supporting and representing 114 YMCAs throughout the country, YMCA England currently employ 430 paid staff, in addition to over 1,000 volunteers. With many of these workers based spread across England and Wales, the HR team has historically relied on a manual, paper-based HR communications – a time-intensive approach to say the least.

But now, with Cascade’s core HR technology, plus workflow, Self-Service and Auto Enrolment modules, YMCA England’s HR team has a proactive cloud-based software solution that drives best practice and ensures legislative compliance.

Moving forward, for instance, self-service will allow a new starter to enter their personal details directly into Cascade. Managers will also have access to the information they require for their teams – an empowering step which devolves further HR administration – and proactive workflows will prompt them to take the right actions, at the right time, in the event of an absence or holiday request, for example.

This streamlined administration has obvious time saving benefits, but the likelihood of error is also reduced, given data is now recorded and inputted only once. Cascade is linked with YMCA England’s payroll software too, to ensure the effective sharing of information and closer, more collaborative alignment of resources.

This has proved crucial when tackling auto enrolment. Cascade constantly assesses employees, before automatically kick-starting a best-practice process every time another member of staff becomes eligible. This aided in the task of manually checking workers’ eligibility status, ensures relevant team members play their part in this otherwise complex process, governs the accurate deduction of pension contributions, and maintains legislative compliance.

Commenting on YMCA England’s investment in Cascade, Senior HR Advisor, Christopher Burges said: “From the point of demonstration, we saw from an end user perspective, that Cascade was a user friendly system that could deliver measurable benefits for our organisation. We have now had Cascade for a year and we have almost completed the implementation of self-service in all areas except our retail shops.  It’s clear that Cascade is helping us in achieve a more efficient  HR function.”
