SeaMe, the product that prevents ghost fishing, was presented at The Perfect World Foundation event, where Prince Albert of Monaco participated
SeaMe is the invention that can save the lives of millions of animals that get trapped in lost fishing gear. The invention SeaMe allows fishermen to find their equipment that would otherwise remain in the sea and continue to catch fish. SeaMe was presented at The Perfect World Foundation's event in Gothenburg, where Prince Albert of Monaco received an award for his environmental commitment.
The new SeaMe invention developed by CMAR AB was presented at the event organized by The Perfect World Foundation. SeaMe has excellent potential and is a solution to prevent ghost fishing.
In our oceans, many marine animals get trapped in lost fishing gear in search of food every day. Lost nets, traps, and pots remain in the sea and act as death traps for fish and other marine animals as they continue to fish.
Figures from Greenpeace show that 6% of all nets used, 9% of all traps, and 29% of all longlines remain as pollution at sea.
According to WWF, lost or abandoned fishing equipment, and so-called ghost gear, accounts for 10% of all plastic debris in the oceans. It also makes it more expensive for fishermen who need to replace the gear. In addition, it means lost catch and time spent looking for lost fishing gear. SeaMe solves the problem with lost fishing gear as they can easily be located and retrieved. The idea with SeaMe, has arisen after conversations with professional fishers.
- Lost fishing gear is really a big problem. SeaMe is a unique solution that enables fishermen to retrieve lost gear and prevents the gear from continuing to catch fish, says Christian Magnusson.
SeaMe is easy to attach to most fishing equipment. If the gear is not retrieved within a predetermined time, a marking buoy floats to the surface and marks the lost gear. The buoy is highly visible on the sea surface and is clearly marked with a text that it is a lost object. SeaMe can be used on almost any equipment regardless of weight and size. A QR code shows how to handle the object.
SeaMe is part of a project supported by Fiskareföreningen Norden and Sotenäs municipality and was part of the exhibition presented during The Perfect World Foundation's event in Gothenburg.

Prince Albert made a statement to Expressen when he visited the event in Gothenburg:
- People must realize that without a healthy sea and healthy marine ecosystems, we will not be able to survive in the long run on this planet. If we do not find a better way to protect them, we will be in great danger if we do not find a way of making these ecosystems healthy.
The next step is to establish partners and investors to reach out with the invention on a larger scale worldwide. SeaMe has a unique patented solution, which means that the product has great potential in a very big market.
