• Customers urged to shop online for mobile phone insurance • Buying insurance via a mobile provider or retail chain is likely to cost well over £100 more during a 24 month contract term iPhone owners are being urged to shop around for suitable mobile phone insurance cover, as new research shows that failure to compare prices could leave customers paying more than £140 more than necessary for similar cover.* iPhone owners in the UK are being dramatically overcharged when it comes to paying for iPhone insurance when buying from high street outlets and the phone networks themselves, figures, published TODAY [3rd December, 2010] from money saving and comparison website www.moneymaxim.co.uk show. The website, home to the UK’s only mobile phone insurance comparison engine, has found that a standard iPhone insurance policy bought from outlets such as the Carphone Warehouse, Phones4U or Vodafone can cost more than twice that of policies sold via their price comparison website. Moneymaxim.co.uk offers consumers iPhone insurance from just £3.99 a month, or £34.99 a year. The weeks leading up to Christmas are the busiest in the mobile phone market, but it is also the time of year when many people sign up for mobile phone insurance policies that leaves them with a financial hangover lasting right through 2011 if they fail to compare and find the best deal for their mobile phone insurance. Mark Bower, Managing Director, explains; “There really is no excuse for consumers to pay more than necessary for their mobile phone insurance. Buying direct from a phone provider or a retail chain may be convenient, but you end up paying two or three times what you should – over a 24 month contract this can add up to more than £140. Our easy to use money saving comparison service lets consumers compare mobile phone insurance prices in seconds, saving them a considerable amount of time and money in the process. “Just one of the policies we offer includes a great deal for iPhone and iPhone4 owners, offering basic accidental damage cover from less than £4 a month. This policy is ideal for someone who never loses their possessions, but wants the reassurance that dropping their phone will not leave them with a massive bill. Alternatively another policy, costing just £6.99 or £64.99 a year covers accidental damage, theft and loss. The policy also promises new for old replacements on a phone, something that is proving an attractive feature of the policy. “With such good deals available on the market, there really is no reason for anyone to pay £12.99 a year or more to insure their iPhone. Indeed almost any mobile phone insurance is cheaper online - Blackberry insurance from just £1.49 a month for accidental damage, theft and breakdown cover and £2.49 a month if loss is to be covered as well – demonstrating the value that is in the market for those willing to shop around.” Notes: * iPhone insurance with moneymaxim covering accidental damage, theft, breakdown and loss typically costs £6.99 a month, while competitors can charge £12.99 for a policy, which over 24 months translates to £144 extra. iPhone 4 Insurance with similar cover levels from Phones4U costs, £11.99, Vodafone costs £12.99 and Carphone Warehouse £13.99 a month (includes access to a gadget helpdesk). Blackberry Curve 8250 Insurance, again with similar cover levels, from Vodafone costs £4.99, Phones4U normally costs £9.99, but are currently offering it at £6.99 online and Carphone Warehouse policies cost £8.99 (includes access to a gadget helpdesk).
