Galvenius comes with extensive and very unique experience from central bank operations. He started his central bank career at Sveriges Riksbank. Galvenius was later recruited to the European Monetary Institute, EMI, where he helped build the organisation that eventually became the European Central Bank, ECB. During 1998-2001, Galvenius acted as advisor to the ECB Executive Board. He later returned to the Riksbank to head the Market Operations Department (including management of foreign exchange reserves). Before moving to Bahrain, Galvenius was responsible for the General Secretariat of the Riksbank.

The recruitment of Galvenius is strategically important. The global economic development in the past years has quickly built up new public financial portfolios around the world. This has increased the demand for knowledge, competence, and products directly related to the Nordic and North European markets. Galvenius will be responsible for current as well as new clients' needs within these areas.

Galvenius assumed his position on December 3.
