seca mBCA and seca analytics 115: Software update for ideal diagnostic support
The strengths of the medical Body Composition Analyzers seca mBCA recognized by experts are precision and medical validation. In numerous studies (current status: www.seca.com/studies) the measurements from the innovative device were compared with scientific gold standards and thus raised to a medical grade level. Now seca gmbh & co. kg, Hamburg/Germany, has made an update to the software used in the innovative device and in the PC software seca analytics 115. The results are new analysis parameters and an enhanced design for an even better and faster interpretation of measurement data.

Now with validated measurement of visceral fat
The more fatty tissue that's stored in the abdominal cavity – known as "visceral fat" – the higher the risk is of developing cardiopulmonary disease and diabetes mellitus. The seca mBCA measures the parameter "visceral fat" in liters. This value was validated by means of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and confirmed in studies.
New presentation and calculation of skeletal muscle mass
In the presentation of total muscle mass, the seca mBCA provides the skeletal muscle mass for the extremities – both arms and legs – and now the muscle mass for the trunk too. Everything is clearly shown in a new diagram. Both total muscle mass and segmental muscle mass are interpreted by comparing the measurements to normal ranges. The measurement of skeletal muscle mass was proven by validation studies based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Graphically enhanced design for analysis parameters BCC and BIVA
The optimized design of the output parameters Body Composition Chart (BCC) and Bioelectrical Impedance Vector Analysis (BIVA) guarantees an unambiguous interpretation of the data. Both the color coding and explanatory terms were perfected and new elements, such as diagonals to visualize the values, have been incorporated in the graphics.
Optimized presentation of phase angle
The phase angle correlates to the nutritional and metabolic condition. Fine irregularities in the body's cells are visible early. With the software update the phase angle is shown against an age scale, making it easy to see whether the value lies within a normal range. The phase angle can also be shown as it develops over time.
Clear, one-page printout of patient results at the press of a key
The PC software seca analytics 115 lets the doctor wirelessly transmit examination findings from the seca mBCA to a PC. From there the results can be compiled into a clear, one page printout. The doctor has all the parameters at a glance and no longer has to flip back and forth through several pages. Best of all: the summary can be generated and printed with the press of a key on the seca mBCA. Measurements can be presented in a time curve for better therapy planning and progress checks. Results also can be forwarded directly to an Electronic Medical Record system.
