Semcon develops a WAP service

Semcon develops a WAP service TimeIT in Your Hand is the name of Semcon's latest develop-ment project. By using WAP technology (Wireless Application Protocol) Semcon is designing a tool for the mobile member of staff. Reporting on project and distance working independent of time and place is of the essence at a time when less and less work is carried out in-house. Thanks to WAP, the mobile phone can be expanded to become a staff link to the organisation. The TimeIT time and travel report system, the mainstay of the WAP customer, is run over the Internet and is used by Semcon's consultants both internally and on the job. The idea of expanding the system with a WAP client is to take flexibility and mobility one step further for both staff and customers. With a WAP telephone you can surf every web page which is optimised for the service. So thanks to WAP technology mobile staff can be connected to the Internet or the company's Intranet, databases and logistics system. The open specification paves the way for IT solutions in modern organisations as regards CSCW (computer-supported co-operative work) and group ware.
