Semcon has received an order from the Danish pharmaceuticals group Novo Nordisk Semcon Industrial Design has been commissioned by the Danish group Novo Nordisk to project the redesign of an insulin factory in Kalundborg, Zealand, Denmark. The order includes process-technological design and programming and 15 consultants will be involved with the project initially. The present order is worth SEK 6 million and several similar commissions are already being discussed. The Danish Novo Nordisk group is active within two main areas: Enzymes and Health Care. Within Health Care insulin production is the predominant activity which has been characterised by very fast growth, which means that demand for new and more efficient production plants has increased strongly over the recent period. "We regard the order from Novo Nordisk as the start of a long, productive partnership," says Anders Lidqvist, Head of Semcon Process/Automation technology in Gothenburg. "We provide Novo Nordisk with broad competence from other sectors, where there are strict requirements for safety, accessibility and not least cleanliness, which is a very important component in precisely the pharmaceuticals industry. That we have long been involved in development projects for the Swedish pharmaceuticals industry is naturally also a factor instrumental in persuading Novo Nordisk to choose Semcon as their business partner." "The complexity of the commission has been an important reference for us. We view this first order from the pharmaceuticals industry as an important breakthrough on the Danish market," says Mats Werne, who is responsible for business development in Denmark. This order can be viewed as the start of a long-term partnership between the two companies, or, as Jörgen Kelkjaer, Head of Mechanical Engineering at Novo Nordisk says: "We are pleased to have started up this collaboration with Semcon. We see great promise of extended co-operation and believe that they will become important development partners for us in our continued expansion.
