Semcon's comments on the article in Dagens Industri With reference to the "Ericsson's new models on the drawing board" article in Dagens Industri, 3 May 2001, Semcon's management would like to clarify a few details. "We never disclose any information about what our customers are doing, as this is strictly confidential," states Semcon's CEO, Hans Johansson. "Semcon works with product development for leading industrial companies and runs continual future studies in the industries that Semcon focuses on. This work is carried out at Semcon's own design studio, where different development models are produced." "The statement about mobile telephones in Dagens Industri is based on a rough outline that our designers produced and our thoughts concerning the possible development routes for Sony-Ericsson, one of Semcon's customers in this particular industry." "The headlines and certain parts of the text could be misleading and could make the reader believe that we are revealing details of Ericsson's plans. I would like to categorically state that this is not the case," says Hans Johansson. "These are only examples and have not been shown to the Ericsson management." "Semcon has experience from the auto industry's platform ideology and Sony's work with platform technology. We would like to show positively the great potential available and how to benefit from other industries' working methods." "Design and quality are the customers' most important means of competition. Two different products with the same technical performance, can, with innovative design, give the competitive advantage and sales desired," he concludes.
