Semcon signs an agreement with Volvo Car Components for engine development Semcon and Volvo Car Components AB have entered into an agreement for product development in connection with the area Engines. The agreement means that Semcon will be working on site at Volvo's factories, mainly on electronics, technical information and Engineering. For the business areas Semcon e-Design and Semcon Industrial Design the agreement will account for around SEK 25 million on an all-year basis to run for two years. Automotive Engineering is one of Semcon's priority sectors and the company has a long tradition within the industry, which accounted for 31% of total turnover during 1999. Volvo Engine Development have made considerable use of Semcon ever since 1992, when Semcon opened an office right outside their doors. Since then Semcon has built up a broad and deep competence within the technological areas now relevant. These are electronic design of control systems, mechanical design of components used and documentation of the technological systems. "We regard this agreement as the product of long, successful collaboration with the customer," says Thomas Ohlson at Semcon, stressing the importance of a developed partnership, where long-term relations are developed. "Through this agreement we will be further strengthening our position and profile as a high-tech supplier within the automotive industry." For Volvo the agreement means that they will be gaining access to the deep competence Semcon possesses within the business areas e-Design and Industrial Design. This will lead to increased flexibility and an opportunity to focus further on their own core competence.
