Sensys Gatso receives a five-year red light and speed TRaaS contract from Marion, Iowa USA, worth SEK 44 million
Sensys Gatso Group, a global leader in traffic safety systems, through its subsidiary, Sensys Gatso USA, has executed a five-year base-term automated school zone speed enforcement contract with the City of Marion through a competitive bid process. The contract is estimated to be worth up to USD 4.1 million, corresponding to SEK 44 million. The program will include fixed red light and speed on green systems, as well as a mobile speed vehicle. The program is anticipated to begin in late June.
“The City of Marion determined staffing shortages were having a negative impact on traffic enforcement efforts and approved the use of Automated Traffic Enforcement (ATE) cameras in April 2023 to assist with those efforts and free up officers for other duties”, said Marion Police Chief Mike Kitsmiller.
In his recommendation to the City Council to select Sensys Gatso, Kitsmiller cited the following reasons:
- Sensys Gatso has been operational in Iowa for several years and currently services the majority of cities in Iowa with ATE programs,
- They offer a robust analytical program which will aid in tracking effectiveness of the ATE program, and
- Sensys Gatso was recommended by other departments; and they have a local presence in Marion which will greatly benefit the city.
“The department looks forward to working with Sensys Gatso and planning meetings have already been scheduled for next week “, Kitsmiller said.
“We are very pleased to partner with the City of Marion to address their traffic safety concerns”, said Sensys Gatso USA President and Managing Director, Bill Braden. “I appreciate the confidence that the city has expressed in Sensys Gatso through our selection in their competitive bid process. Our team is ready to work with the city to implement their specifically designed automated traffic safety program and reduce dangerous driving and collisions in the community.”
Sensys Gatso USA now has 12 contracted automated traffic enforcement programs in the state.
