MEMPHIS, Tenn. (October 6, 2010) – Jerry Almond, a retired captain from the San Bernardino County Fire Department, has been named the 11th recipient of the ServiceMaster Clean “Extra Mile Award” this season.

Almond has been the Assistant Fire Safety Coordinator since the speedway opened in 1997 and has worked every major event since joining the Auto Club Speedway team. He supervises and coordinates many of the day-to-day operations of the Fire Safety Team and helps maintain the high level of service and professionalism to workers, guests and competitors at ACS.

Almond is an expert dart competitor and pool player.

“I am so thrilled that ServiceMaster is recognizing Jerry Almond for the extraordinary effort he brings to his role at Auto Club Speedway,” said ACS President Gillian Zucker. “Jerry takes great pride in providing an exceptional and safe guest experience and we take great pride in having Jerry as part of our world class team.”

The award recipient can be any member of the track staff that works in a service-oriented position. Track management personnel select the winner. Almond will receive special awards and recognition this weekend during Sunday’s pre-race ceremonies at Auto Club Speedway. The 10 previous winners have a combined total of 170 years of service.

“Jerry has an enormous responsibility as assistant fire safety coordinator for ACS,” said Jim Wassell, chief marketing officer for ServiceMaster Clean. “The speedway has been fortunate to have his expertise for 13 years now, and his passion for the sport is unwavering. Jerry Almond truly embodies the spirit of the Extra Mile Award and we are honored to recognize his efforts.”
