Ron Wood Named Winner of ‘Extra Mile Award’

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (August 3, 2010) – Ron Wood, a member of the Watkins Glen International track facilities team, has been named the fifth recipient of the ServiceMaster Clean “Extra Mile Award” in 2010.

Wood, a resident of Corning, N.Y., has been active in track maintenance and restoration projects at The Glen since 1973. On race day, his duties include track cleanup as well as rail and tire-wall repair.

"Ron is a very hard working individual with tons of experience and passion for what he does and is certainly a valuable part of the crew,” said Michael Printup, president of Watkins Glen International. “I'm excited for him to receive this award and happy he gets the recognition for his hard work that he deserves."

In addition to NASCAR, Wood has supported numerous other forms of racing at the facility including F-1, CART, ISMA, IndyCar, Grand-Am and SCCA.

“Ron’s loyalty and dedication spans nearly 40 years at Watkins Glen,” said Jim Wassell, chief marketing officer for ServiceMaster Clean. “Not many people are able to make that kind of claim. He takes pride in what he does and the Watkins Glen team is very fortunate to have him. Ron Wood truly embodies the spirit of the Extra Mile Award and we are honored to recognize his efforts.”

The award recipient can be any member of the track staff that works in a service-oriented position. Track management personnel select the winner. Wood will receive special awards and recognition this weekend at Watkins Glen International.
