McKee Named ServiceMaster Clean ‘Extra Mile Award’ Winner

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (October 28, 2010) – Talladega Superspeedway’s Jimmy McKee has been selected to receive the ServiceMaster Clean “Extra Mile Award”.  The presentation will be made Sunday during pre-race ceremonies prior to the running of the AMP Energy Juice 500.

McKee has been a vital part of Talladega Superspeedway for more than 25 years.    In 2006, he was named Manager of Emergency Services.  Before taking his permanent position at TSS, he served as a firefighter/paramedic for the Gadsden Fire Department, retiring in 2005 after 27 years of service.

“Jimmy has been and remains one of our most valuable employees here at Talladega Superspeedway,” said Grand Lynch, Talladega Superspeedway chairman.  “The team he leads goes beyond what normal fire and safety people do at most race tracks.  They also continue to be an integral part of our guest services program.”

McKee is an Alabama native.  He graduated from Gadsden High School and attended Auburn University and Gadsden State Community College.  When he’s not working, he enjoys spending time with his grandchildren and wife, Emiie, of 33 years.  He also enjoys riding his Harley and getting in a round of golf when he can find the time.

“Jimmy’s firefighting experience obviously lends itself very well to the role he plays here at TSS,” said Jim Wassell, chief marketing officer for ServiceMaster Clean.  “The speedway has been fortunate to have his leadership for more than 25 years now, and I can honestly say that everyone feels safer when Jimmy is in charge.  He truly embodies the spirit of the Extra Mile Award and we are honored to recognize his efforts.”

The award recipient can be any member of the track staff that works in a service-oriented position.  Track management selects the winner.  The 12 previous winners have a combined total of 196 years of service.

ServiceMaster Clean is in its second season as the official sponsor of caution periods at the 19 International Speedway Corp. (ISC) and Speedway Motorsports Inc. (SMI) tracks and Dover International Speedway.
