Central co-determination negotiations concluded on the closure of Seskarö sawmill
Central co-determination negotiations according to the Swedish Co-Determination Act (MBL) on the closure of Seskarö sawmill in Haparanda municipality were concluded today. Setra will now begin executing the decision and local negotiations on the closure will get under way. All sawing at Seskarö will cease in the summer.
“An employer always has a great responsibility when restructuring is taking place and Setra will take that responsibility,” says Kent Torwald, Setra’s President and CEO.
“In the short term our commitments will involve handling the process of closing the mill in a way that, to the greatest extent possible, helps those who will be given notice. Among other things, various adjustment initiatives will be offered that may make it easier to get the jobs that are available in the region. Older employees may also be offered a pension solution,” says Kent Torwald
“In addition, we will be allocating resources to continue the task, in consultation and partnership with affected stakeholders, of finding alternative activities for the existing industrial estate,” says Kent Torwald.
