Kvarnåsen Processing, which is part of Setra Group, will focus its operations on production of untreated and treated mouldings. A planing line that is not required for moulding production will be closed at the end of the year. This measure will lead to lower production and affect a total of 13 people.

Anders Olofsson, manager at Kvarnåsen and responsible for all Setra’s processing units in northern Sweden, says: “Starting in the new year Kvarnåsen will specialise on production of untreated and treated mouldings. The production cutback we are now implementing represents both a specialisation and an adjustment of volume to the current sales rate.”

A total of 13 people are expected to be affected by the production cutback which is planned for implementation from the beginning of 2008. Negotiations under the Swedish Co-Determination Act (MBL) have started.

Jerker Nyström, Production Director at Setra, comments: “This production cutback will not affect the investment in increased painting capacity decided earlier. Long-term demand for treated mouldings is strong. Building materials consumers want products that are simple to use and do not require time-consuming treatment and painting.”

Setra operates sawmills and processing units at 16 locations in Sweden. Processed wood products such as mouldings and decking for impregnation are manufactured in Kvarnåsen. Approximately 55% of the mouldings range is painted. Kvarnåsen Processing is located in the municipality of Norsjö and currently has some 40 employees.
