The new trimmer at the Setra Färila sawmill was inaugurated yesterday, Thursday 3 July. Newly installed scanner technology will improve the efficiency of timber sorting which will provide more consistent quality, reduced production costs and strengthened competitiveness.

Wood products company Setra made a decision to invest in automated sorting at the Färila sawmill at the beginning of September 2013. Less than ten months later the new trimmer is ready. The inauguration took place at lunch time yesterday, Thursday 3 July.

“We have now strengthened Färila’s future competitiveness through more consistent quality and reduced production costs. With the aid of technology we can take even better care of our fine raw material,” says Mattias Forslund, Manager of Setra Färila and continues:

“We now have a smart and smooth-running trimmer in Färila which also offers further development potential. Everyone involved in this project has done a fantastic job. If we had to do this again, we would not do anything differently.”

As result of this investment the sawmill now has the latest visual grading technology from FinScan as well as mechanical engineering and automation from CGV (C. Gunnarssons Verkstads AB). In addition to controlling the equipment, the control system will also handle enclosure protection.

Setra Färila is a sawmill with an annual production volume of approximately 150,000 cubic metres of sawn product. The unit has some 50 employees.

Setra Group includes a total of nine sawmills, three processing units and two modular building factories.
