Setra is investing SEK 60 million in a new trimmer at the sawmill in Skinnskatteberg. One consequence of this investment, which will increase efficiency and the level of automation in production, is that some 20 employee positions will disappear at the unit.

Börje Bengtsson, President and CEO of Setra, comments: “This is a strategic investment which will ensure the future competitiveness of the Skinnskatteberg sawmill.”

“The market situation for sawn products is difficult right now,” Bengtsson continues. “This should be seen as a long-term investment which will allow considerable expansion of production at the unit when the economy sees an upturn again.”

Today, annual production at Skinnskatteberg totals approximately 250,000 cubic metres of sawn product. Once this investment has been carried out, annual production capacity will rise to 350,000 cubic metres.

The new trimmer, which has a very high level of automation, is expected to be ready in August 2012. Approximately 20 employee positions will be affected by the organisational changes that will result from more efficient production. Negotiations under the Swedish Co-determination Act (MBL) have started.

Setra Group has a total of ten sawmills, three wood processing units and, via the subsidiary Plusshus, three modular building factories. Setra Skinnskatteberg, which is a specialised redwood sawmill, currently has approximately 80 employees.
