Setra invests in automated sorting at Färila
Setra has decided to invest in automated sorting at Färila sawmill during 2014. This investment is part of the ongoing efficiency improvement programme at Setra aimed at further strengthening the wood products company’s competitiveness.
“Times are hard in the wood products industry but if we are to be a long-term partner for our customers we must keep up with developments in terms of both technology and working methods,” says Mattias Forslund, Manager of Setra’s sawmill in Färila.
“The market for the Helsinge spruce is good and combined with stable raw material flows and competent, motivated employees, we are now investing for the future,” says Forslund.
“Higher raw material volumes from the forest have led to a 25% increase in production at Färila sawmill during 2013. This investment in automated sorting is strategically important since it will enable the unit to be used more efficiency and produce an even better result,” says Forslund.
This investment includes the latest visual grading technology from FinScan as well as mechanical engineering and automation from CGV, C. Gunnarssons Verkstads AB. In addition to controlling the equipment, the control system will also handle enclosure protection.
The major gains from this investment will be more consistent quality and lower production costs. It is scheduled to go into operation during the first half of 2014.
