In 2006/2007, Setra has invested approximately SEK 20 million in the Långshyttan glulam factory. The new facility, which is now equipped to boost glulam production by 50%, was inaugurated on 27 March.

Kent Torwald, President and CEO of Setra Group: “The market for glulam is showing strong growth. As a result of the investment in Långshyttan we can increase production by 50% which will give us an opportunity to take part and meet the increased use of glulam structures in housing construction and industrial buildings.”

“The production increase will be combined with a focus on complete solutions for the building trade,” says Torwald.

The investment mainly relates to rebuilding and efficiency enhancements. A new scanner and crosscut saw as well as improved laminate jointing will increase today’s production to at least 50,000 m3/year within a two-year period. There is also capacity for further production increases.

Setra’s glulam factory in Långshyttan is one of the most modern and efficient in Europe for production of standard beams. Approximately 70% of production is exported, primarily to Germany, Japan and Italy.

“Glulam is a material that encourages modern architecture and construction that is compliant with today’s environmental requirements,” comments architect and professor Magnus Silfverhielm, who took part in the inauguration of the new glulam factory. “Wood is a renewable material that appeals to all the senses and which also manages the meeting with other building materials in an elegant manner.”

The raw material for glulam production at Långshyttan is spruce which is mainly sawn at Setra’s Heby sawmill. Like all Setra’s interior products, glulam have environmental certification.
