Setra, Sweden’s largest wood products company, is investing SEK 40 million in its pine sawmill in Skinnskatteberg. The investment relates to a new sawlog sorting unit.

The planned investment includes a totally new sawlog sorting unit with 61 sorting compartments and an X-ray log scanner. The X-ray log scanner provides more accurate grading and enables the logs to be graded at the sawlog sorting stage according to the quality of the end product.

“The investment in this sawlog sorting unit completes the modernisation of the sawmill in Skinnskatteberg,” says Kent Torwald, President and CEO of Setra Group. “Using modern X-ray technology enables us to make optimal use of the raw material and sawing can be customised right at the start of the production process.”

Skinnskatteberg will be the second Setra sawmill to be equipped with an X-ray log scanner. This equipment was also recently installed at the Lövholmen sawmill in Piteå.

The sawmill in Skinnskatteberg is a strategic unit for Setra. The unit specialises in redwood and is logistically well sited in Bergslagen 60 km north of Västerås. The sawmill has annual sales of SEK 550 million and 85 employees.
