On August 30, 2023, Shape Robotics' new subsidiary in the Republic of Moldova ('Shape Robotics East'), was awarded its first contract by Chemonics International Inc., Washington, Chisinau Branch, on behalf of the USAID Moldova Future Technologies Activity.

The tender process referred to the procurement of technical equipment for Future Technologies Activity's beneficiary Future Classroom Lab (FCL) and it is funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Sweden and UK Aid and implemented by Chemonics International Inc.

The order amounts to approx. 80.000 EUR, and consists of various educational technology, including the company’s own developed robot Fable. The order will be delivered during September.

The goal of the Future Technologies Activity is to enhance the competitiveness of Moldovan transformative sectors, including light manufacturing, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), precision engineering, creative industries, and digital media production, and to improve the country’s integration with Western markets in these sectors. The project office is looking for local companies to provide the necessary equipment in accordance with USAID and Chemonics IT standards and policies.

Moldova today has a growing tech sector, and there is great political interest in raising the level of education of the population across age groups. This first order acknowledges the quality of the Shape Robotic’ competitive EdTech solutions.

"This initial order underscores the promising outcomes of our expansion initiatives within the region. Our commitment to supporting Moldova's transformative sectors remains steady, and we firmly believe that our STEAM solutions will not only drive our business's success in Moldova, but more significantly, will also enact positive change within the country. We are confident that our efforts will further ignite interest in STEAM subjects, making a meaningful impact on education and learning engagement” CEO André Fehrn

EU and World Bank build momentum behind Moldova's tech sector

As an EU applicant since 2022, Moldova is included in several international programs funded by the EU and the World Bank aimed at raising the tech and education level of the population. The identified programs represent a large part of Shape Robotics' revenue potential in the country.

The Government of Moldova has recently opened several programs aimed at strengthening vocational education and training for the benefit of better economic development in Moldova, including improving access to higher education, increasing the quality of teacher training and modernizing teaching methods and materials.
