Shaylor Group recently held its first biannual ‘Fred Shaylor Golf Classic’ at Little Aston Golf Club, West Midlands.

Named after the late Chairman of Shaylor Group who lost his fight to bowel cancer a year ago, the golf day was aimed at raising funds and awareness for Beating Bowel Cancer, Shaylor Group’s chosen charity.

The event took place on Wednesday 4th June, and despite the appalling weather, received fantastic support in terms of both participants and sponsors. 22 teams took place, with players coming from all over the British Isles and Ireland to compete in the 18 hole competition. Funds were also raised by a Mulligan Sale, double point ball sale and prize auction which took place during the evening’s awards dinner at the club.

Generous sponsors contributed to the success of the day with a number of glamorous donations and prizes. Tournament prizes included new cars from both Arbury Peugeot and Volkswagen and items up for auction ranged from match day hospitality at Aston Villa FC to a tour and luncheon at the House of Lords.

Jan Shaylor, widow of late chairman Fred Shaylor and Shaylor Group’s Charity and Events Co-ordinator, commented “The hard work involved in organising the event paled to insignificance when I saw all the players warm heartedly putting up with the awful weather conditions on the day and then coming off and saying it was good fun. All the volunteers from Shaylor Group who contributed to running the day were amazing too. Fred would have been very proud and thrilled at the end result.”

The day raised in excess of £12,000 bringing Shaylor Group’s total fundraising to approximately £20,000 which will be donated to Beating Bowel Cancer in the near future.
