Shaylor Group is celebrating Project Manager Paul Fairholm winning the company’s first ever Construction Manager of the Year (CMYA) medal.

Paul received the prestigious award at the Finals ceremony held at Grosvenor House Hotel in central London on Thursday 30th October.

Paul was named as Silver Medal winner in the ‘New Build & Refurbishment between £4-5m’ category for his outstanding performance on The Belfry Resort in Wishaw. The Belfry is perhaps England’s most hallowed golfing venue, being four times the hosts of the Ryder Cup and is also home to the PGA (Professional Golfers' Association). The project saw Paul manage a series of fast track refurbishments and remodelling exercises to a number of areas of the resort’s hotel including the restaurant, kitchens, bar, main lobby and external entrance. The biggest challenge for Paul was carrying out all the required works to the highest standards while ensuring the hotel remained fully operational at all times. With a programme of just 20 weeks and a tight budget, it required a great deal of planning, professionalism and supply chain collaboration to achieve this demanding task.

It was a night of shared success for Shaylor Group, as it was proud to have another Project Manager in the spotlight at the Finals ceremony. Adrian Adams was named as a Finalist in the ‘New Build & Refurbishment below £2m’ category for his performance on a programme of works on Phase 1 of the Post Office’s Crown Transformation Programme. This saw Adrian deliver 8 Post Office refurbishments nationwide in just 13 weeks, predominantly out of hours and without causing any disruption to any of the branches being worked on. Despite narrowly missing out on a medal, Adrian was delighted to have been recognised for his achievements.

Speaking of the success, Shaylor Group CEO Stephen Shaylor commented “We are incredibly proud to have once again had not one but two of our Managers reach the Finals of this distinguished event. To have won our first ever CMYA medal is testament to both Paul’s vision and managerial skills and our professionalism as a company to have been able to support him with his planning and execution. As an SME, it is incredibly gratifying to have had 5 of our Managers named as CMYA Finalists within a 5 year period, and this fact truly reflects the expertise of our team”.

Winning the Silver medal has been a fantastic experience. Not only was The Belfry project one of the best I have worked on in my career, winning the award made all the effort (not only from myself but from the whole team) worthwhile. One of the main benefits of getting into the finals was gaining CiOB member status which in turn has allowed me to develop my career further by attending seminars, accessing their CPD portal and networking with other members.
