Sir Mervyn King visits Shaylor Group
Shaylor Group were honoured to host a visit from Bank of England Governor Sir Mervyn King as part of his tour of the West Midlands last week.
As one of the regional contacts of the Bank of England, Shaylor were selected to sit down with the Governor to gain first hand feedback regarding the construction industry climate from a locally based company with a national presence. Sir Mervyn visited Shaylor Group’s Aldridge offices accompanied by members of the West Midlands Agency as part of a two day tour of the area, his third annual tour of the region.
Sir Mervyn enjoyed visiting the offices where he was able to meet employees and discuss their perspectives on the current condition of the Construction Industry. He was then joined by members of the Shaylor Board of Directors in a roundtable discussion on how the economic conditions are affecting the business and its clients.
Shaylor Group CEO Stephen Shaylor, pictured here with Sir Mervyn, commented “Our visit from Sir Mervyn King has been a valuable experience for all of us at Shaylor Group. With the construction industry forming such an important part of our G.D.P, Sir Mervyn wanted to hear exactly how the recession has affected not only the construction industry here in the West Midlands from an ‘on the ground’ perspective, but also the actual day to day impact on medium sized family run businesses like ourselves. Members of our Board were involved in an earnest round table discussion with Sir Mervyn, which proved insightful for all parties and it was great to see the Governor taking such an interest in a company like ours. We were able to highlight how our diversification strategy has enabled us to weather the brunt of the downturn and map out sectors where we are performing strongly”.
