Perfect Rig Commissioning Thanks To PSM
The newbuild ‘Greatdrill Chaaru’ offshore drilling rig in Indian waters is benefitting from unrivalled tank level measurement, thanks to marine instrumentation specialist PSM.
Twenty-four ICT 1000 liquid level transmitters from PSM have been installed on the world-class jackup rig. Utilising the ICT 1000’s flexible installation options and simple commissioning procedure has allowed the shipyard to quickly and cost-effectively implement a multiple tank gauging solution.
During transportation to a work site, a jackup rig has its legs up and its hull floating on the water. Upon arrival, the legs are jacked down onto the seafloor to anchor the rig and hold the hull well above the waves.
Each of the rig’s pre-load tanks have been fitted with the ICT 1000 transmitters to measure and monitor the amount of water being pumped into the tanks. Once filled to the correct level, the tanks drive the legs into the seabed and locate the rig firmly in position.
Able to drill to a depth of 30,000m and in waters up to 350ft, the Greatdrill Chaaru was constructed in only 18 months on a fast track basis by specialist rig builder Lamprell. The rig has now joined its sister vessel the ‘Greatdrill Chaaya’ on contracts for Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited.
Offering the highest possible standards in terms of performance and reliability, the ICT 1000 is a smart dual mode Modbus and analogue liquid level transmitter that can be fully programmed for measurement range, functionality and diagnostics. Compatible with all common marine liquids and cargos, the ICT 1000’s pioneering capacitive measurement cell is manufactured in robust and durable ceramic, is fully submersible and features an onboard micro-controller to precisely monitor pressure-related output.
The ICT 1000 transmitter body is manufactured from 316 stainless steel and employs a carefully engineered seal assembly in a choice of materials. With a robust, fully submersible (IP68) construction, the ICT 1000 is protected against overload and shock pressure conditions and is capable of withstanding the toughest operating conditions for many years.
