PSM’s New VPM 4310: Already Proving a Cost Effective Solution in Iceland

After PSM launched their VPM 4310 Integrated Tank Gauging System last year, the benefits of this new product, specifically designed for smaller ships, are already being recognised in the market.

Vestmannaeyjar Harbour Company, who provide the port services for the Westman Islands located off the south coast of Iceland, identified that the existing tank gauging system on their harbour tugboat Lodsinn was proving unreliable with ever increasing maintenance costs. They contacted PSM, via their local sales partner Akor ehf, asking them to provide a system solution that fitted their tank gauging and budget requirements, including a low purchase price and minimal installation and commissioning costs.

PSM were able to recommend and provide them with their new VPM 4310, a packaged system designed for smaller vessels which provides electronic measurement and a centralised display, at a reduced cost compared to conventional systems. As the components of the system are supplied already configured to suit the application, only local cabling was required by the engineering team onsite, meaning there was no need for specialist support from PSM.

After installation, the accuracy and reliability of the tugboat’s fuel, service and water tank gauging system has already been greatly improved, increasing efficiency and saving money.

The Chief Engineer of the Vestmannaeyjar Harbour Company said “We are completely satisfied with the VPM 4310 system, and it has met all our operational and budgetary requirements. We were greatly impressed with the support from both Akor and PSM during the sales and installation work.”
