News Release

18th February 2013

Abandoned and unwanted dogs are getting a helping paw from a growing office supplies business based in Brigg.

Brigg Office Supplies, run by animal lovers Mireille West and Jenny Ellis, has adopted Jerry Green Dog Rescue as its Charity of the Year for 2013.

The company, which purchased and moved into new premises in the Old Library in Brigg town centre in October last year, will be supporting the Broughton-based charity throughout 2013.

The shop now has in-store collection boxes and Jerry Green Dog Rescue merchandise on sale and is using its open days as an opportunity to fund-raise for the charity.

Directors Mireille and Jenny are also selling recyclable charity bags and have collected a mountain of toys and treats for the dogs as part of Jerry Green’s Love Us, Love Our Dogs Valentine’s Day campaign.

“Jenny and I are real animal lovers and have several pets of our own that we love dearly,” said Mireille.

“Having visited the Jerry Green Dog Rescue Centre in Broughton several times we know how hard the staff and volunteers work to help find suitable and loving homes for the dogs that are brought in to them.

“My daughter has a part-time job at Jerry Green Dog Rescue and she helped us realise how dedicated and devoted they are to creating happy endings for dogs of all ages which through no fault of their own find themselves homeless.

“We’re very lucky to have generous and kind customers and friends who are helping us to raise funds and raise awareness.”

Catherine Foster, Head of Fundraising for Jerry Green Dog Rescue, added: “We’re truly grateful to Mireille and Jenny for their unbelievable offer of support.

“We really entirely on donations and bequests and so we really appreciate every generous offer that we receive.

“We’re looking forward to working with Brigg Office Supplies throughout the year and we’re confident that their help and support will make a big difference to our work.”

Notes to editors

Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities. It has rescue centres in five locations:

  • Broughton near Brigg, North Lincolnshire
  • Algarkirk near Boston, Lincolnshire
  • Blidworth near Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
  • Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire
  • Thirsk, North Yorkshire

Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a unique policy whereby prospective adopters are not shown the dogs in their kennels; instead the charity introduces individual dogs to adopters in a neutral environment which is less stressful for the dogs.

People who offer to rehome a Jerry Green dog do so as adopters, not owners. Jerry Green Dog Rescue retains ownership of its dogs and insists on a number of meetings and home visits before a dog is adopted.

The Charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding.  This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors and sponsors.

Brigg Office Supplies has been in business for 11 years and moved to larger premises in the former Brigg Library building in October 2012.
