Who says Halloween parties are just for humans? A dog rescue charity is inviting dog lovers to raid their costume cupboards and join in the fun at a charity dog walk.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue is hosting a series of family friendly ‘Howl-o-ween’ walks in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire to celebrate Halloween.

Rescue centres in Algarkirk in Lincolnshire, Broughton in North Lincolnshire, Gilberdyke in East Yorkshire and Thirsk in North Yorkshire are inviting dog lovers to dress up and take part in the festive fun.

All walks will take place at 1.30pm on 27th October apart from North Yorkshire which will host its ‘Howl-o-ween’ walk on Thursday 31st October at 2.30pm.

Walks will take place as follows:

  • Jerry Green Dog Rescue, Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire: 27th October, 1.30pm start, registration from 1pm
  • Knavesmire, York: 31st October, 2.30pm start, registration from 2pm
  • Jerry Green Dog Rescue, Algarkirk, Lincolnshire: 27th October, 1.30pm start, registration from 1pm
  • The Mount Café, Castlethorpe, near Brigg, North Lincolnshire: 27th October, 1.30pm start, registration from 1pm

Walkers are encouraged to put together their scariest outfit and special prizes are on offer for the most creative canine competitors.

“It will be great to see our friends and supporters dressed up in fancy dress. It’s all about getting in the spirit of things and we’re sure everyone taking part will have a great time,” said Catherine Foster, Head of Fundraising.

“It’s the only time of the year that I’d be happy to say I saw a ghost whilst out walking my dog!”

Entry is £5 per adult and £2 per child with all proceeds going towards the care and re-homing of rescue dogs.

Those wishing to take part are asked to register their interest with their nearest Jerry Green Rescue Centre. However, participants are also welcome to turn up on the day itself.  All dogs are welcomed on leads, as well as those people without a dog simply wishing to support this fabulous cause.

Notes to editors:

Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities. It has rescue centres in five locations:

• Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire
• Broughton near Brigg, North Lincolnshire
• Algarkirk near Boston, Lincolnshire
• Blidworth near Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
• Thirsk, North Yorkshire

Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.

The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.

The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
