News Release

13th April 2012

An eye-catching sign featuring a chameleon created by Lincolnshire firm Allen Signs has been named Individual Sign Project of the Year (one to nine employees) at the Sign and Digital UK Awards.

The North Hykeham-based business near Lincoln was up against four other businesses nationwide for the title at the prestigious ceremony which is dubbed by many as the industry's sign and print Oscars.

Allen Signs, which was first established in 1965, was nominated for a shop sign featuring a chameleon with an LED eye that changes colour.

Account Manager Kevin Brocklesby explained: “The client - Chameleon Print on Lincoln’s High Street - wanted a dramatic sign which would be completely different to other signage in the area and draw attention to the new business.

“The ability to change colour is a distinctive characteristic of the chameleon so it was very important that we included an element of this in the shop signage. We retrofitted the store’s original fascia and projecting sign and worked with Applelec to create the chameleon character and bring the creature’s eye to life using LEDs.”

The Sign and Digital UK Awards’ Events Director Rudi Blackett said the project won the support of all the judges.

“Allen Signs’ Chameleon Print sign was unanimously praised for its clever use of LED technology, using illumination to really lift the whole project. The judges were impressed by an imaginative solution to a simple brief featuring a creative, arresting and appealing sign.”

Managing Director David Allen said they’re delighted to have won the award: “It’s a testament to the team we have here that we are able to produce such a broad range of signage using a wide variety of techniques.

“It’s obviously great when a client receives positive feedback from their customers about our work buts its really satisfying when our industry peers recognise the effort that we’ve put in to a project.

“Helen and I have an excellent team behind us at Allen Signs and the award is really in recognition of their hard work and dedication to providing excellent customer service.”
