Glass manufacturer Beatson Clark has appointed a new Design Engineer to head up the company’s design team.

Dean Arey (36) says he will be bringing in some fresh ideas and looking into new technologies in mould design.

He takes over from outgoing Design Engineer Alan Haigh, who retired in October 2011.

Dean has worked in glass packaging design for the last 12 years. His previous role as Senior Product Designer for a leading glass manufacturer has provided him with a broad knowledge of the industry and a wealth of experience in glass design, project management and 3D CAD technology.

“I am looking forward to working even more closely with our customers through the entire NPD process and adapting our design service to suit their specific requirements,” said Dean.

“I want to offer an alternative approach to glass design by showing the initial concept as a full visual representation, as you would see from a design agency. Seeing an image of what the end product would look like will make it much easier for our customers to make decisions on the initial design.

“In addition, we will also be continually exploring new lightweighting opportunities.”

Whether modifying an existing bottle or creating a totally new product, Beatson Clark offers a flexible service both through the variety of design options available and tailored production runs.

Beatson Clark’s design team is also looking at ways in which it can reduce the costs involved in creating a bespoke product, making it more accessible for smaller niche brands and new product launches.

By embossing a company name or logo on a standard container, for example, the mould costs can be significantly reduced while still enhancing the brand and giving real shelf appeal.

The team works closely with customers and their own design agencies from conception to production, using state-of-the art technology and ensuring that the aesthetic quality and functionality of the glass container are backed up by years of technical experience in glass manufacture.
