2nd March 2012

A new lightweight beer bottle by leading glass packaging manufacturer Beatson Clark will be showcased at the Food & Drink Expo at the Birmingham NEC this month.

The 500ml tapered amber beer bottle can also be manufactured in white flint and weighs just 285g – almost half the amount of Beatson Clark’s original beer bottle, which weighed in at 403g. It will be officially launched at the Birmingham event taking place between 25th and 27th March 2012.

Beatson Clark’s Marketing Director Lynn Sidebottom commented: “Following market research we have come up with a new modern design for a lightweight 500ml tapered beer bottle.

“The bottle will be available from stock in the spring and will have a standard crown neck finish suitable for beers, ales or ciders, however it will also be interchangeable with an MCA finish to make it suitable for soft drinks. This new design is also the first tapered beer bottle in Beatson Clark’s general sale range.

“This is an exciting development for Beatson Clark and one we think will be very popular with the brewing industry. As glass is infinitely recyclable and totally inert, it is a healthy and sustainable product that helps to minimise the effect of packaging on the environment.

“Making the new design available through the general range, which already includes more than 60 products for the food sector as well as a wide selection of pharmaceutical and beverage products, makes it a more accessible product.”

Lynn added that by using bespoke finish moulds Beatson Clark’s clients can create their own unique, customised design by having their company name or logo embossed onto the bottle.

“This is a very cost-effective option and we can accommodate volumes as low as 150,000 units,” said Lynn.

To make things easier for its customers, Beatson Clark has deliberately kept the dimensions similar to the previous style so breweries using the original bottle will not need to invest in different change parts for their equipment.

The benefits of lightweighting include reduced production costs and the ability to offer clients a more cost-effective product without compromising on quality. By reducing raw materials use and energy consumption, lightweight bottles can also help Beatson Clark meet waste reduction and emissions targets to fit in with the company’s green ethos.

Beatson Clark will be exhibiting at stand L179 at Food & Drink Expo, where the firm will be showing its latest designs and innovations and offering a prize draw to win a hamper of premium products in glass packaging.
