Bike Ride Challenge for Letting Agents
News release
19th June 2012
Bosses at a Lincoln lettings agency will be swapping sales for saddles when they take part in a charity bike ride this month.
Lettings Director Simon Sewell from Lighthouse Property Services, based on Carholme Road in Lincoln, along with Tim Clark, a Consultant for Countrywide PLC, the parent company of Lighthouse Property Services, Andrew Talkes from BrandFour and two other riders will take on the Castle 2 Coast 2 Castle challenge on Thursday 28th June.
Around 140 riders taking part will leave Lindum Sports Ground at any time between 7am and 10am on the day of the ride, covering the 100-mile round-trip to Chapel St Leonards and back at a pace to suit them. The ride will raise cash for The Junior Sports Programme which aims to encourage youngsters to play sports in Lincolnshire and East Nottinghamshire.
“We were approached to get involved by the deign agency BrandFour, which is also based in Lincoln, and we have a very good relationship with them so decided to give it a go,” said Simon, who has been a keen cross country rider for a number of years but has never attempted this sort of distance.
“I must admit I’m a little bit nervous; I’m a mountain biker not a roadie. I haven’t actually trained for this at all so it could be quite a challenge. It’s a great cause though, so I am very pleased to be involved. We’ll be riding under the team name of BrandFour, but Lighthouse is very much involved with all staff being supportive!”
Teams of four or more can enter the event in return for a £100 donation to the charity. They can then raise their own cash either for that charity or for another charity of their choice.
Last year’s event saw 80 riders take part, raising a whopping £15,000 for a number of local charities including the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and St. Andrew’s Children’s Hospice in Grimsby. The event is organised by staff at Wright Vigar Chartered Accountants, LloydsTSB and commercial fitters apss.
Ride organiser Jack O’Hern said: “Lincolnshire is a great county for cycling long distances because it's big and flat and there's a lot of space in between the built up bits. But unfortunately, too much time sitting in an office makes us all candidates for an early visit to the hospital, so we had the idea of organising a bike ride for the business community to train for and also to have a bit of fun, whilst avoiding the ills of a sedentary lifestyle.”
