3rd October 2012

Businesses attending the first Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership Business Summit will hear about future plans for growth as the organisation sets out its three-year business plan.

The summit will be a platform to launch the 2013 - 2016 business plan as business leaders and politicians gather to debate the big economic issues facing Greater Lincolnshire. The free event will be held on Friday 12th October at Market Rasen Racecourse and will be hosted by Greater Lincolnshire LEP Chair Ursula Lidbetter MBE.

Ruth Carver, from the LEP Secretariat, said: “We’ll be using the summit as a chance to map out our ambitions over the next three years and gain valuable feedback from business leaders and politicians about what they think of the plans.

“Some of the LEP’s ambitions we will outline include lobbying for key infrastructure to be put in place such as a direct rail link between Lincoln and London, good services for utilities such as water, gas and electricity and increasing broadband coverage across the county.

“We want to make sure that businesses across Greater Lincolnshire feel comfortable with the priorities we’ve outlined, so we’ll be asking for feedback from people attending the event and offering people who aren’t there a chance to have their say over the coming month.

“Our aim is to create the conditions which will bring improved infrastructure to Greater Lincolnshire as well as opportunities for businesses to grow.”

Delegates at the event will hear a talk from Chairman of the LEP Network, David Frost CBE, DL on the role of LEPs in their local economies and will have a chance to ask their own questions. A representative from Market Rasen’s Portas Pilot – a scheme spearheaded by shopping guru and TV presenter Mary Portas – will also give a speech on the project so far.

Other items on the agenda include detailed information on the significant success the LEP has already had in securing funding for the area.   Lincolnshire County Council has secured £14.3 million, with support from the LEP, which will help bring next-generation broadband to Lincolnshire by 2015, while the Greater Lincolnshire and Humber LEPs are both backing the plan for superfast broadband in North Lincolnshire too, where £2.6 million has been allocated by Broadband Delivery UK to improve connection speeds.

A further £9 million of funding has also been secured for vital infrastructure projects, such as transport improvements and flood defences, and the Greater Lincolnshire LEP is backing Regional Growth Fund (RGF) bids including a £75m plan to create a food cluster in North-East Lincolnshire.

The Greater Lincolnshire LEP Business Summit begins at 9.30am on Friday 12th October and includes a buffet lunch before closing at 1.30pm.
