Charity in a Spin Over New Washing Machines
News release
28th November 2013
Do you ever feel that your day is a never-ending cycle of filling and emptying the washing basket?
For staff and volunteers at Jerry Green Dog Rescue it was beginning to feel like ‘ground dog’ day before the arrival of six energy-efficient washing machines across the charity’s five centres in Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.
Thanks to a generous donation of £14,400 from Support Adoption For Pets, established and supported by Pets at Home, the new equipment will mean less time spent washing, and more time spent caring for dogs.
“Keeping bedding, dog coats and equipment for over 160 abandoned and unwanted dogs clean whilst in our care can be quite a challenge,” said Catherine Foster, Head of Fundraising at Jerry Green Dog Rescue.
“The new washing machines mean we can focus more time on finding the perfect home for our dogs and less time in the laundry room. The new machines have a larger drum so we can wash more items in one go and they are better for the environment too.
“We are delighted with the generous donation from Support Adoption For Pets – it really does help make a difference to the dogs in our care.”
The washing machines are now being used at the charity’s five centres in Blidworth in Nottinghamshire, Algarkirk in Lincolnshire, Broughton in North Lincolnshire, Gilberdyke in East Yorkshire and Thirsk in North Yorkshire.
Emily Evans Rehoming Centre and VIP Charity Co-ordinator for Support Adoption For Pets also commented: “Support Adoption For Pets is thrilled to hand over a cheque to Jerry Green Dog Rescue for £14,400, they do fantastic work for the dogs in their care and extensively promote responsible ownership.
“We look forward to supporting them more in the future and hope the six washing machines for their five centres allow the rescue to have more time to focus on rehoming!”

Notes to editors:
Jerry Green Dog Rescue was founded in 1961 in Broughton, Lincolnshire and is now one of the UK’s largest dog rescue charities.
Jerry Green Dog Rescue has a caring ethos which puts the dogs in its care at the centre of everything it does. It also operates a policy whereby prospective adopters are introduced to dogs in a neutral environment away from the kennel, resulting in less stress for the dog and increasing the chances of permanent homes being found.
The adoption process at Jerry Green Dog Rescue involves a number of introductory visits and the rehoming team provide pre and post adoption support to ensure the move to the dog’s new home is as smooth as possible.
The charity receives no Government or National Lottery funding. This means it is dependent on the generosity of public and corporate donors/sponsors.
Support Adoption for Pets launched in 2006 to help give abandoned and homeless pets a second chance of happiness.
