People attending the Building a Better Business event next month will get advice on growing their company from the man formerly in charge of boosting the UK’s export industry.

Guest speaker Paul Barron CBE, who headed up Alstom in Lincoln before it became Siemens and previously worked as the director of UK Trade and Investment, will deliver a talk at the 1st November event at Lincoln College.

The Lincolnshire Echo-backed event is aimed at arming established businesses with the skills to grow and develop in a challenging economy. It is being organised by the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce.

Paul, who was also a member of the UK Task Force on Competitiveness as well as Chairman of the Energies Industries Council, said: “I plan to focus on how businesses can become extraordinary through the power of having a clear vision, high-performance team-working, an engaged workforce and effective communication. I will talk about how to break out of ‘business as usual’ habits and drive for extraordinary results.

“Events like this can help businesses realise the need to change and see for themselves what is available, as well as giving them a chance to meet like-minded people.”

One hundred people have so far booked places at the event, with scores more expected to register. People are advised to book early to avoid disappointment.

Shooting Star PR will deliver a PR on a Budget workshop, the University of Lincoln will talk about creative thinking, Streets Chartered Accountants will offer advice on how to manage your balance sheet and the Lincolnshire Echo will talk about the role the local media plays for local firms. Workshops will also be led by banking giant Barclays Bank and UK Trade and Investment.

People attending can also take advantage of children’s activities being offered by the college for a small charge, ensuring as many people as possible can attend workshops.

Simon Beardsley, Chief Executive of the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “This is going to be a great event offering a chance to get tips on improving your business from some major players.

“It’s also a great networking opportunity too. We’ve structured the event to offer flexibility for delegates to pick and choose the elements they want to participate in, but there will be so much useful advice on offer that we would actively encourage people to stay for the day.”

A complimentary lunch is included. By the end of the day it is hoped that delegates will have learned some new skills and new strategies which will help them to move their business forward in future.

Lincolnshire businesses can also have a stall at the event for just £50 + VAT.

The event is being organised by the Chamber with partners Lincolnshire County Council, accountancy firm Streets, Lincoln College, Ruddocks, Barclays, University of Lincoln, Lincolnshire Media and Shooting Star PR.

It is on between 9.15am and 4.15pm.To book your free place or reserve a stand, call Natasha Clegg on 01522 846920 or email natasha.clegg@lincc-chamber.co.uk
