Expert Speakers Lined Up for Directors’ Briefing

Business leaders across the region have an opportunity to hear the views of a range of influential experts at the Duncan & Toplis Directors’ Briefing in Grantham later this year.

The complete Iine-up for the annual event, which aims to offer high-level advice and insights to directors and finance directors in the East Midlands, has now been revealed.

On the timetable to speak alongside Ian Dormer, Chairman of the Institute of Directors, will be Sarah Stevenson, Deputy Regional Director for UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) East Midlands,Stuart Baldwin, Founder of The Positive Company, Perveen Virdee, Chief Operating Officer Europe and North America at Appco Group UK, and Neil Parker, Market Strategist at NatWest.

“This will be an essential briefing for businesses of all sizes, with expertise covering an incredibly diverse range of business considerations,” said Mr Dormer.

“In addition we’ll be looking at the nature of our economic recovery and focusing on how firms can maximise opportunities during difficult trading conditions. I know from my own business experience, as well as from my work with the Institute of Directors, that we all have a great deal we can learn from each other.”

Ian Dormer, who is the Managing Director of Rosh Engineering Ltd, started his working life as a journalist on Flight International and he continues to write for the DailyTelegraph.

Sarah Stevenson, whose talk will promote the benefits of exporting, has worked for UK Trade & Investment for 15 years.  She joined the East Midlands team as Deputy Director in November 2012 following a five-year spell in London heading up the South-East Asia unit. 

Stuart Baldwin is a leading expert on engagement, performance and happiness at work.  He is a highly sought after speaker, motivating leaders to create new levels of performance and engagement in their people. He has worked with the BBC, AXA, Government departments and MPs.

Perveen Virdee has over 14 years’ experience in direct sales and marketing, and her expertise ranges from operations management to business development and client relationship management. She joined Appco Group in 2000 and has been Chief Operating Officer for Europe and North America since 2012. At the briefing she will give an insight into Appco’s marketing approach, how growth has been achieved in demanding times and how challenges to the business have been identified and overcome.

Neil Parker, who joined NatWest in 1995, will talk to delegates about the difficulties the UK economy is facing, particularly in manufacturing and construction, despite the recent bounceback in activity. He will also cover issues surrounding key markets, including the Euro zone, the United States and Asia, the outlook for interest rates in all of these economies and some key foreign exchange forecasts.
