News release

12th July 2013

A fertilizer trading assistant from farmers’ buying group Woldmarsh has been elected as the first female Chair of the Lincolnshire Young Farmers’ Club in 12 years.

Shannon Eaglestone, who volunteers for the club in her spare time with encouragement from the Louth-based co-operative, has been given the role of Chairman following ten years of membership and volunteering with the organisation.

The Lincolnshire Young Farmers’ Club is a charity with around 500 members between the ages of 10 and 26-years-old. The county is split into 15 clubs, all of which are run by the members on a volunteer basis.

“I’m thrilled to have been picked,” said Shannon, who has been in the club since the age of 16. “The role of Chairman is a very important one, and it’s an extra honour to be the first female to hold the post in more than a decade.

“One of things I love about working at Woldmarsh is that community engagement is encouraged and supported. They’ve sponsored the Lincs YFC county rally for the past two years and our CEO Stuart McKenzie has judged competitions, helping to give the company a face too, which is a great help as all competitions are again judged by volunteers.

“As a company Woldmarsh also does a lot of training and personal development, and this has helped me in my role within the YFC. My aim for the coming year of 2013/14 is to make people more aware of the county and what we have to offer, as we don’t seem to shout about all the great opportunities we offer as much as we could. We are also working hard to strengthen the individual clubs and encourage the members to undertake training and learn new skills which will ensure that they can further their personal development.”

She has now worked at Woldmarsh for two years. Stuart McKenzie added: “It’s a great accolade for Shannon to be chosen as Chair and we are very proud that she comes from Woldmarsh.”
