FOOD AND DRINK QUESTION TIME COMES TO LINCOLN
News Release
27th May
The government’s planned reform of the UK food system will be debated at the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s first ever Question Time style event at the University of Lincoln’s Riseholme campus on Thursday 2nd June.
An expert panel will be answering questions relating to the DEFRA Food 2030 strategy – an ambitious plan which will help shape the future direction of the agricultural and food sector, not just in Lincolnshire but across the UK.
Amongst other things, it sets out a view of an agri-food sector which is characterised by consumers being well informed and able to choose and afford, healthy, sustainable food.
This demand will be met by profitable, competitive, highly skilled and resilient farming, fishing and food businesses, supported by first-class research and development.
Food will be produced, processed and distributed to feed a growing global population in ways which use natural resources sustainably, enable the continuing provision of the benefits and services that a healthy natural environment provides, promote high standards of animal health and welfare, protect food safety and make a significant contribution to rural communities.
The panel will include:
- Ian Girdley – Agri Food Manager, HSBC Agriculture
- Will Gemmill – Regional Chair and Partner, Strutt & Parker
- Nick Cheffins – Managing Director, Peakhill Associates
- Mark Swainson - Senior Lecturer, Food Manufacturing, University of Lincoln
- Reverend Canon Alan Robson - Agricultural Chaplain for Lincolnshire
The evening will be chaired by John Giles, a Divisional Director of the leading agri-food consulting firm Promar International and the Chair of the Food, Drink & Agricultural (FDA) Group of the CIM.
Registration for this event begins at 6pm for a 7pm start. Food and drink will be provided. Tickets cost £5 for CIM members and university staff and £7.50 for everyone else, while CIM and University of Lincoln students can attend for free.
Bookings can be made by calling the CIM on 01628 427340 or online at cimevents@cim.co.uk
