Food Sector Boost for Lincolnshire
News release
10th February 2014
The UK Government’s team tasked with boosting business is to visit key sites in Lincolnshire as part of work to encourage inward investment in the food sector.
Food sector specialists from UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) across the country will be given a tour of major food producer QV Foods’ site and the National Centre for Food Manufacturing, both based in Holbeach, and a visit to a farm run by Moy Park.
The idea is for UKTI to get a better understanding of what the area offers to the food industry. That information will then be used to showcase to investors the potential of doing business in Greater Lincolnshire.
The visit, which will take place on Thursday (13th February) between 10.30am and 5pm, has been arranged by the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), which lists agri-food as one of its key priorities for growth.
LEP board member Mark Tinsley, who works in the farming industry, will host the visit. “Greater Lincolnshire is home to almost a quarter of England’s grade one agricultural land, grows one-eighth of the nation’s food, and processes 70 per cent of the UK’s fish, making it one of the key areas for the UKTI team to highlight to investors,” said Mark.
“Our food heritage is well established, contributing an estimated £1 billion to the county’s economy and employing around 35,000 people in agriculture or food production. We look to continue to grow that sector with both existing and new businesses.
“We’re thrilled that we’re being given a chance to demonstrate what Greater Lincolnshire has to offer.”
