Farmers and people living in rural Lincolnshire can continue to access vital support after more than £5,000 was raised through a charity golf day.

The money will be donated to the Lincolnshire Rural Support Network (LRSN), which offers pastoral and practical casework services to Lincolnshire's farmers and rural residents facing tough times.

The golf day, which was won by Wragby-based TCS Spraying, was organised by the charity with help from farmers’ buying group Woldmarsh, based in Louth, which supports the organisation.

Stuart McKenzie, Chief Executive of Woldmarsh, who played on the Mole Valley Farmers team said: “Everyone had a great day even with the awful weather and we are all very pleased with the amount raised. This is a very worthy cause and one we’re pleased to continue to support.

“As our members are all farmers, they understand better than most the importance of having a good support network available, so they always respond with enthusiasm to the opportunity of raising much-needed money for the LRSN.”

The event, now in its third year, saw 23 teams of four take on the course at Waltham Windmill in Grimsby on Friday 24th May.   Teams were made up of farmers, Woldmarsh members and volunteers from the charity.

Each team paid an entry fee to take part and then raised sponsorship, with extra cash being raised through sponsorship of the tees and a raffle to reach £5,000 total. In second place was Finnegan’s Fiddle, RBM Agricultural based in Louth came third and fourth place went to Alistair Harvey and team. The longest drives came from Dan McEvoy and Bridget Holmes.

Sophie Dunn, PR and Events Manager for LRSN, said the organisation was delighted by the success of the day. “Huge thanks go to all the companies and players who helped make it such a success,” she said. “Their generosity helped raise over £5,000 which will help us continue to offer our vital pastoral and practical casework services to Lincolnshire's farmers and rural folk who are facing tough times at the moment.

“Our casework has increased by over 20 per cent from this time last year and these funds will help sustain our support to those in need.”
